Faversham House is considered one of the most beautiful properties in Western Australia and is one of Australia’s oldest privately owned country homes. The residence sits at the end of a gated drive and is set on 1.7 hectares of spectacular heritage parkland gardens and vineyards overlooking Mt Brown. Established by the Monger family in 1840 the property has a fascinating history which includes being gifted to the Australian Government to assist with the war effort in 1941. The house was then used by the Red Cross as a hospital until the 1950’s.
The earliest parts of Faversham House date from 1840, and early renovations include a spacious drawing room with fireplace and a sizeable dining hall. It has been in the hands of the current owners since 2004 and boasts interiors restored with Georgian and Victorian features. The gardens have undergone considerable landscaping and feature additions such as the “secret garden and amphitheatre”.
With its elegant romantic setting this impressive heritage mansion currently operates as a country house wedding venue, as well as a unique location for corporate functions, which the current owners say generate “good income”. It has hosted over 150 weddings during the past 10 years, as well as many conferences and company meetings for national corporations, government departments and universities, many of which are repeat bookings.
14 bedrooms all with air conditioning, 7 of which are located on the top floor and are extremely spacious accommodating both a kingsize bed and sitting area. Six further bedrooms are set around a pretty courtyard with pergola adjacent to the main building. Two of these have been superbly upgraded in recent years.
